Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend.
Since I work full time, Monday, which is one of my days off, is a “working blog day”. The last few weeks have been a little unpredictable with working extra shifts and attending various appointments but it’s nice to be getting back into my writing routine. After a busy weekend, however, it’s sometimes hard to get moving.
And what a weekend it was!
Yesterday we celebrated my birthday at RECESS, an all-ages family event that took place at the Mattamy Centre, (formerly the Maple Leaf Gardens). All the proceeds from this event went to Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto, so it felt good spending time with my family while supporting a fabulous organization.
At first, we weren’t sure what to expect or if there would be much for a 15 month old, but as soon as we stepped off the elevator to check our stroller, we could not believe our eyes. The sponsors and organizers of this event went all out, making sure there was something for everyone. Virtual surfing, carpool karaoke, life-size Lego, video games, a dance party and bouncy inflatables were just a handful of the day’s offerings. The event was extremely well organized and volunteers were available at all areas of the venue to assist and to make sure children and families were entertained and engaged at all times. Our tickets included drinks and food, as well as healthy snacks (courtesy of Grocery Gateway).
Ethan’s favourite RECESS moment was participating in the beach ball/volleyball game. Not only was it the ultimate definition of controlled chaos (children everywhere, loud dance music, beach balls being tossed every which way), my heart filled with joy as I watched him run, chase and throw the balls with other kids. His smile and squeals of laughter were priceless.
The entire day had a nice balance of upbeat activities and slower, more chill moments. Before leaving, we enjoyed a few quiet moments at the sandbox. I studied Ethan as he went through the motions of filling up and dumping sand from a pail while watching the other kids. Toddlers are truly fascinating.
As soon as we picked up our stroller, all of the fun and excitement truly hit our little man.
So, if you`re looking for a very special event, be sure to check out RECESS next year. Not only is it a fun outing but you`re supporting a great cause!
