Thanksgiving 2018

October 7, 2018

Thanksgiving in Canada is celebrated much earlier than our neighbours south of the border!

This year we spent Thanksgiving at our Aunt Lori and Uncle Ralph’s cottage in Sydneham, Ontario.

Not only do they have a beautiful home that backs on to a private lake, they have their fair share of animals that Ethan enjoyed visiting.

Being off grid this weekend allowed me to reflect on this past year. Here are ten things for which I’m thankful for.

  1. My country. As the rest of the world grows more messy and complicated I’m thankful to be living in Canada, land of diversity, the right to vote and OHIP.
  2. My challenges. It is often said what doesn’t challenge you doesn’t change you. My struggles with depression and anxiety have not been easy this year but I’m getting stronger every day.
  3. The opportunity to work on Blissdom. I always wanted to attend this conference but never in million years did I think I would be able to help plan this incredible event with an awesome team.
  4. The courage to walk away from teaching. It’s not easy to walk away from the things that just don’t serve you anymore. I knew I needed to take the leap and make a change. It’s been scary but ultimately empowering.
  5. My body. Far from perfecting this but I’m slowly making peace with my body. I’ve taken full responsibility for how I treat and nourish it and grateful for how far I’ve come to being the best version of myself possible.
  6. Marshmallow candles from Bath and Body Works. Because who doesn’t want their house to smell like a giant smore?
  7. Sunday morning bagels and chats with my parents. I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like but this weekly ritual is a special chance for us to catch up and for them to spend time with Ethan.
  8. Ethan’s laugh. He truly is a happy little guy. Watching him grow, learn and discover new things every day warms my heart.
  9. Adam. I hope you’re reading this because there aren’t enough words to describe how grateful I am to have you in my life. My husband is an incredible partner, devoted father and tireless provider for our family. He prefers to be behind the scenes, but every now and then I enjoy sharing with the world just how special he is.
  10. My blog. Small but mighty it’s hard to believe that in only a few short months, this blog will be a year old. And I’m so glad I stuck with it. The blogging world is still very new to me, but I’m thankful to have an outlet to create content and connect with people from all around the world.

What are you thankful for? How do you practice gratitude? Let me know in the comments below.

Wishing you all a very happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving.

Xo
