Did the title of this post make you itch?
In any case, thanks for dropping by. Somehow I blinked and Christmas is less than a week away. As I write this, I am currently in my apartment, living out of plastic bags because if this year couldn’t get anymore crazy, we discovered that a rash on Adam’s skin was actually bedbugs. We’re actually handling this pretty well (all things considered) but nothing is more humbling than trying to dig for a clean pair of underwear.
But I digress…
I can’t believe it’s been so long since my last post and with so much happening, I wanted to take some time today and bring you up to speed on what’s been happening and where I’ve been.
My Wellness Journey
I’m still on WW and working the program, in spite of closed gyms and minimal trips to the grocery store. Trying to maintain my weight during a pandemic (among other life challenges) has definitely tested me in ways I couldn’t imagine. And as my journey has evolved, so have my goals. There are still some things I would like to change. But over the last few months (and moving forward), I’m taking a more holistic approach to getting the results I want.
The biggest change for me has been my mind set. Instead of posting my weekly weight loss updates on the gram, I’m choosing to focus more on loving my body. Of course there are things I want to change, but rather than focus on the number on the scale, I’m leaning in to the non-scale goals and victories (more energy, clothes fitting better, confidence). It’s not always perfect and it takes a lot of work and planning. But continuing to set small goals rather than just one end goal (ie. the number) has been really helpful during these crazy stressful times we are living in.
Work and Career
This past summer, I decided to go back to school on a part time basis and pursue a certificate in Social Media Marketing. I love everything I’m learning, especially the concept of Content Strategy and personal brand story telling. This has allowed me to so some self work while tapping into some creative juices. The thing I love most about social media is the way you can connect with people around the world in new and interesting ways. I just finished the Fall semester and I have signed on for few more courses in January. While I still have a ways to go to complete my certificate, this decision has re-confirmed my passion for creating content, telling stories and engaging with people.
Acting
I can’t believe this has it’s own category. But seriously? Who knew that a pandemic would be the perfect time to kick start an acting career? Let me explain.
Over the last 8 weeks, I have been working as a background performer on a few film productions in Toronto. What started as one random gig has miraculously opened the door to more bookings on four more union productions. I’m so unbelievably pumped for all of the productions that are filming in Toronto next year. I’m grateful for the work because it’s kept me busy after being furloughed from my coaching job with WW. But most importantly, I’m rediscovering my love for acting, filmmaking. and have been able to make some pretty amazing connections.
What’s really neat, is that all of this consistent film work has allowed me to move from non-union and into ACTRA AABP. Make no mistake. I’m the lowest rung on the ladder, (bold and in italics so you know there is absolutely no ego, here lol). BUT…the fact I’m on the ladder? It feels pretty good. I’m super excited to grow, learn and challenge myself more for 2021. So that being said, I making it a goal to take an acting class in 2021. I’m looking at a really great school in BC that does their classes over Zoom. I always wanted to explore method acting, so once I decide on a class and actually sign up, I will definitely bring you updates.
The Blog and Final Thoughts
Having said all that, I really want to make more time for this blog. I know this year has been insane and don’t get me wrong, I’m very content with the progress and quality of posts I’ve put out this past year.
BUT: I’m ready for more.
If 2020 has taught me anything, it’s how important it is to make the most of my time, keep listening to my gut, and tame the self-limiting beliefs. I’ve discovered that even in our darkest hours, the world is a place full of endless possibilities. And as I get braver and take more risks in my life, I can’t wait to get out of my head and share these moments with you. I would love to know what topics you wish to see on here so please don’t hesitate to reach out below or on my socials.
Thanks for stopping by today and for continuing to support my blog and socials. We recently hit 2000 followers on Instagram and I can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with a fun giveaway (so stay tuned).
Until next time!
